For more than 25 years, I worked for the Social Security Administration in positions ranging from frontline customer service to senior management and operations analysis. Throughout my career, I was less interested in titles and organizational charts than I was in understanding how organizations actually work.
I have always been fascinated by performance. Why does one office outperform another? Why does one process succeed while another struggles? What are we doing that we shouldn't just "because we've always done it that way?" What causes service delays, operational bottlenecks, or uneven workloads? Most importantly, what practical changes can improve results?
As a District Manager and later an Operations Analyst, I spent much of my career studying those questions. I analyzed performance data, observed operations, listened to employees and managers, tested new ideas, and
helped leadership make informed decisions. Some of my most rewarding work involved identifying systemic problems, developing practical solutions, and helping organizations improve service delivery and operational effectiveness.
I have never considered myself a traditional consultant. I am not interested in selling complicated theories or management fads. I enjoy understanding
how organizations work, identifying opportunities for improvement, and helping decision-makers solve difficult problems. I like looking at data, talking to people, sitting in on meetings. I collect information, process it, and then use creative thinking to help understand the problem. I may come up with some ideas and those ideas can be the kindling to your solution.
